Education

The Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics is committed to education for students, trainees, and faculty of Columbia University’s multiple campuses across a wide range of subjects. By nature integrative, the Divisions bring their expertise to bear on the intersections of bioscience/practice with worlds outside health care: law, economics, social sciences, humanities and the arts, moral questions, and cultural practices. Our Education portfolio includes a Master’s degree and Certification Program in Narrative Medicine, required ethics and narrative medicine curricula for medical students, reflective practice training seminars for physicians and residents, interprofessional education for students in ten of Columbia’s health professions schools, bioethics mentorships, and undergraduate seminars in the history of medicine. The Department embraces its teaching mission to open the doors of biomedicine toward the worlds it discovers, enhances, and serves.
