States of Grace: A Journey of Loss, Resilience and Renewal
March 9, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Columbia University Medical Center Project for Interprofessional Education and Practice, with support from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation, invites you to experience States of Grace, a story of the devotion, resilience and commitment inherent in caring for another. Embedded within the narrative of Dr. Grace Dammann’s recovery from a near-fatal accident lie testimonies to a life spent caring for others, from the charges of serving the HIV community, to the journey of raising a child with special needs, to the family, supporters and partners that created the bedrock of her recovery. While depicting the complexities of service across disparate times and contexts, States of Grace elucidates the power of diverse teams and the eclectic strategies inherent in caring for another. After over one year of vital integrative rehabilitation and physical therapy, the film captures Dr. Dammann’s return to her partner Nancy and daughter Sabrina, to the LGBTQ and Zen Buddhist communities and to the challenges and triumphs that accompany the creation of purpose in a new life. Through its various depictions of compassion and discovery, one is left to consider which threads each of us will choose as we weave our very own fabrics of meaning and care. More info on the film >>
